11. Chandigarh, Chandigarh
‘The City Beautiful’ has taken a beating in Swachh Survekshan’s 2019 rankings, falling from the third position in 2018 to the 20th this year. Hiring a consultant hasn’t helped either. The fact that the city fared poorly in the certification aspect shows that the authorities need to put their heads together to firm up a strategy to phase out garbage dumps. The city lost its ranking in a recent cleanliness survey, due to its bad performance in the nation wide-cleanliness survey. The city ranked 17th in the new cleanliness survey compared to its 12th rank as per the previous year. Under the new measure, the municipal is spreading awareness with the help of the transgender community.
13. Pune, Maharashtra
In 2017 it was ranked 13th on cleanliness, while in 2018, this city was ranked 10th at the Swachh Survekshan awards. But Molak (Civic Officer and Zonal Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation) has promised the citizens to rank number one in the coming Swacch Survekshan.
14. Ahmedabad, Gujarat
Sharing the joyous news from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Patel wrote, ‘In the category of cities with population more than 10 lakh, Ahmedabad ranks first as ‘Clean Big City.’ The award was part of the Swachh Survekshan 2019 ranking, in which Ahmedabad received the sixth position across the country.
15. Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh
Ambikapur is Chhattisgarh’s cleanest city, according to the Swachh Survekshan. The city has managed to segregate and recycle 90% of its waste. The city has no open dumping yards.
